Before venturing into the third season, here are things you need to know about The Mandalorian
There are two kinds of people in this world, those who don’t know what The Mandalorian is, and those who start humming its theme on its mere mention. If you belong to the former category, then this Star Wars – The Mandalorian Handbook is something written specifically for you, but if you belong to the latter, then going through this book would serve as a wonderful revision ahead of the third season which commenced on March 1st.
For the uninitiated, The Mandalorian is a Star Wars spin-off in which Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin aka The Mandalorian travels around the galaxy with the mysterious Grogu and encounters different kinds of species from the Star Wars universe, and beyond. On one hand, he gets to meet Luke Skywalker while on the other he battles it out with Moff Gideon who wants to use Grogu’s mysterious powers for his own gains.
This book talks about everyone and every place The Mandalorian visits during his journey in the first two seasons and how he fares after meeting with Boba Fett and the Jawas, who like every other character in the series have another story to tell. Furthermore, you can also get to meet the many strange aliens and droids who are part of the Mandalorian universe and learn about them, their foes, their friends, and their motivations without leaving the comfort of your chair.
From Din Djarin’s mentor Greef Karga to his favorite ally The Armorer, everyone gets a mention in this book that discusses their character and their pros and cons instead of the actor playing them. That’s why the readers get to know many insights they had no idea about, alongside the correct names of new planets, frightening monsters, and even scary-looking friends, some of whom even laid their lives to save ‘the kid.’
Laced with color photographs of everything from the species, vehicles, and the venues from the hit series, this book gives equal importance to the good and the evil characters, since they both have a mission to complete. Not only does it present the backstory of folks like Boba Fett, Moff Gideon, and Ahsoka Tano but also discusses their association with Mando which is crucial to the series’ plot. Why is he attached to an alien species is not just the only question in the readers’ mind but also the reason behind his running away which sort of gets answered in these pages.
The best part of this book is the ‘Things you need to know’ section that is scattered throughout this tie-in book to the hit series. If you didn’t know what Beskar is and why is it important to Mando, what is Sorgan and who owns its common house, what made Ranzar Malk go against the protagonist, and what made the Frog Lady important, then you surely need to go through these pages to refresh your memories.
Furthermore, the arsenal used by Mando and his allies and foes, the secondary characters who are neutral in the battle between good and evil, as well as the ships, and vehicles used by the characters gets special mention as well, making this book a sort of encyclopedia for this Star Wars spinoff. That’s not all, the Crews and Units that make their appearance during the series also get their due place, adding authenticity to this book.
