He may have played the role of a villain in Udaari to perfection but in real life, Ahsan Khan continues to be the hero to many. Be it the distribution of stuff to needy people, the idea of Deewar-e-Meherbaani or promoting those who have no one to care for them, Ahsan Khan has been there and done that. And this year on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the actor made his presence felt with Chashm-e-Num – a short film about a couple that braves disability to fall in love.
The short film was conceived and produced by Ahsan Khan himself who believes that it is an actor’s duty to do such projects every year to make people aware of those with disabilities. Instead of going with renowned TV directors or film ones, Ahsan chose to introduce untapped talent through this venture. Writer and director Amar Khan shared the lead with Ahsan as the two played visually impaired people who fell in love and braced themselves for what was to follow.
‘If we don’t give these youngsters a chance, then who will?’ asks Ahsan Khan when inquired as to why he went for new people. ‘One day these youngsters will make Pakistan proud because they have the capability and the understanding that many don’t. The film was beautifully shot and the credit of that goes to Jasim Khan and Ali Bukhari who are graduates of Beaconhouse University, like the writer. The title track Naina by Amanat Ali also did well and I am sure that after this film, people will be more aware of people with disability around them. I plan to take Chashm-e-Num to film festivals abroad and show to the world that in Pakistan we have talent that is still undiscovered.’
Ahsan Khan feels that as a Pakistani, it’s our responsibility to be kind and understanding to all and Chashm-e-Num is one such gesture for people with disabilities that made this day special through highlighting the importance of the day.
